Overview
Count by Dose is a fundamental change to the way inventory is tracked for controlled substances. When active, inventory will decrement by the number of doses given instead of the Quantity Per Dose (QPD). The result is Inventory decrementing by 1 each time an order is administered regardless of the QPD entered. The new decrementing rule applies to all orders except Liquids. Liquid orders will ALWAYS decrement by the QPD as opposed to the number of doses. The facility will no longer be prompted to enter the Quantity Given (with the exception of the QTY order action) on orders that are PRN’s or have a QPD of 0 when counting by dose.
Procedure to Activate Count by Dose for Communities
- Select the Waffle Menu and Facility Maintenance
- Select Settings from left panel
- Select Controlled Substance Count tab
- Toggle Allow Counting by Dose to Active
- Save Settings

NOTE: If the community is already live with Controlled Substance Count, Aline recommends a manual reconciliation of orders. This is to create a log in the inventory report of the switch happening.
